Constantine I the Great (AD 306-337), as Augustus

Constantine I the Great (AD 306-337), as Augustus

• Denomination: AE reduced follis / nummus

• Obverse: FL VALER CONSTANTINVS PF AVG, laureate head right — your photo reads "IVL...NOB C" because the VALER and PF AVG are worn and the legend is crowded, but the portrait style and the reverse force Constantine I, not Constantius II

• Reverse: GENIO AVGVSTI, Genius standing left, modius on head, chlamys over shoulder, holding the head of Serapis in right hand and cornucopia in left; palm branch at feet left; star in upper left field

• Fields: N left, A over wreath right (visible in your second photo — the "A" on the right, the "N" is faint under the patina left of Genius)

• Mint: Alexandria, exergue ALE

• Date: AD 313

• Reference: RIC VI Alexandria 163 — described exactly as "Genius, with cornucopiae, holding head of Serapis; star above, palm branch at feet; ALE in exergue; N in left field, A above wreath in right; 22 mm, 4.2 g"
