Description

Licinius I, AD 308-324. AE Follis (nummus), Antioch mint, AD 315-316

• Obverse: IMP LIC(INIVS) LICINIVS P F AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Your example shows the full "LICINIVS LICINIVS" spelling, a common die variant of the standard legend.

• Reverse: IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN, Jupiter standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding Victory on globe in right hand and long sceptre in left; eagle with wreath at feet left. In right field the officina letters are worn, in exergue ANT.

• Reference: RIC VII Antioch 17; Sear 15253. Wildwinds describes this exact type as "Licinius, AE follis, Antioch. AD 315-316. IMP LIC LICINIVS PF AVG... IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN, Jupiter standing left... eagle with wreath at foot left... Mintmark ANT. RIC VII Antioch 17; Sear 15253. Rated R3". Harvard Art Museums also places this issue at Antioch, 315-316.

That R3 rating means it is scarce for Antioch, not the most common Thessalonica or Nicomedia versions.
