This drachm of Menander I represents a significant period in Hellenistic history, illustrating the fusion of Greek and Indian cultures during the Indo-Greek Kingdom. Menander I, known in Indian texts as Milinda, was one of the most notable of the Indo-Greek kings who expanded their dominion into northwestern India. His reign is marked by prosperous patronage of Buddhism, evident from the famed "Milinda Panha" text, which records dialogues between King Menander and the Buddhist sage Nagasena. Such coins underscore the intricacies of cross-cultural interaction and influence in the ancient world.
