***Demetrius III was primarily based in Damascus.
On his coinage, he used official titles like Theos Philopator Soter ("God, Father-loving Savior"). The nickname "Eucaerus" is popularly used by modern historians and translates to "well-timed," but it is a likely mistranscription of the nickname Akairos, meaning "the untimely one," which was used by the ancient historian Josephus.
His reign ended when he was defeated by the Parthian Empire and taken captive, where he later died after 87 BC.***
