Description
Etruscan Bucchero Kantharos, ca. 7th-6th Century BC. Etruscan bucchero kantharos with a deep bowl and distinctive high, looped vertical handles that rise seamlessly from the lower body to the lip, set upon a flaring pedestal foot. The vessel is fashioned in the characteristic bucchero technique, a specifically Etruscan method of firing that produces a uniform, lustrous black surface. Its delicately potted earthen fabric and glossy, burnished finish are hallmarks of this distinctive ceramic tradition. H. 5 1/4" W. 7 1/2" (13.3 cm x 19.1 cm)..
