Description

25¢, 1965-MS62/63, Mated pair. Reverse indent on 25C/25C on 10C Planchet.

This is an incredibly difficult error to describe, let alone find. An indent occurs when two planchets, one smaller than the other, are fed between dies meant for the larger planchet. The smaller planchet sits between a die and the larger blank, and the strike forces it into the larger piece, leaving a circular indentation.

That error alone is scarce, but this two-piece set includes the very planchet that caused the indent. The dime planchet now carries the reverse image of the Washington quarter it struck into. Finding either piece is challenging. Finding both together is nearly impossible.
