Description

Roman Bronze Bust of a Satyr, Decorative Support Element, ca. 1st Century AD. From the upper element of a tripod stand, the youthful figure is shown with his head turned to the left. He has pointed ears and small horns emerging from his forehead, with pronounced brows, articulated eyes, a broad nose, and parted lips. Two small scent glands are indicated on his chin. His wavy hair is bound with a thick fillet of ivy and berries. A nebris is draped over his left shoulder, the fawn’s legs descending along his chest. The bust rests on a square plinth with moldings, the underside open, and a projecting shaft at the back.

Intact, with minor losses and some weathering to the nose and other high points. The surface exhibits a fine, mostly even dark green patina
