Description:
An early posthumous Alexander tetradrachm from the important Black Sea colony of Mesambria. Struck nearly 50 years after Alexander's death, these broad-flan issues are prized for their Hellenistic style and historical link to the trade routes of Thrace.
This example is exceptional for the type: NGC gives it perfect 5/5 for both strike and surface – rare for Mesambria, which often comes brushed or porous. Heracles' lion mane is fully rendered, and Zeus is sharply centered with a crisp eagle. The surfaces show attractive old toning with underlying luster, confirming the high surface grade.
A premium Alexander-type tetradrachm, ideal for a high-grade type set or Black Sea collection, and already certified for easy resale.
Perfect for: Alexander the Great portrait coins, Thrace, NGC slabbed ancients.
