Portrait of Henry Le Châtelier, left profile, with his pince nez glasses and their little string very much in evidence. Exergue: HENRY LE CHATELIER in relief lettering. Signed: Raoul Lamourdedieu in script and dated 1921 lower right corner of image/Henry Le Châtelier stands in a laboratory, facing left, his back against a lab bench on which are found what may be an optical bench and spectroscope and microscope. He is gazing at what seems to be a window or doorway into another world, that of a large metal business. Three furnace doors form the background while two workers appear to be taking a sample of the metal, one ladling it into a mold and the other examining it with a pyrometer, perhaps. Signed under the laboratory table at bottom right. Exergue: LA SCIENCE ET L’INDUSTRIE/ A HENRY LE CHATELIER. There is no evidence of who or what agency might have produced the medal.
Henry Louis Le Chatelier (1850-1936) was the son of an engineer. He studied engineering but became a chemist and professor of chemistry, always, however, continuing to work with various industries including cement and metallurgy, as is seen in this medal. Condition is excellent, noting only a bit of discoloration of the patination on the reverse From the T.H.G Collection.
