***Between 125 and 100 BC, this phrase refers to a period of major political consolidation and economic growth in Amisus, a major Greek coastal city-state within the thriving Kingdom of Pontus (located in modern-day Turkey). This exact era is highly recognized by historians and coin collectors because it marks the rise of Rome’s most formidable Eastern rival: King Mithridates VI Eupator (also known as Mithridates the Great)***
