Description

Roman Standing Bronze Figurine, ca. 1st-2nd Century AD. A rare Roman bronze figurine of a standing warrior depicted in the act of making a sacrifice. He holds a gladius in his left hand, while his extended right hand originally held a patera, now missing, in the customary gesture of ritual offering. The figure is rendered with idealized, youthful features, with the distinctive coiffure and facial features recalling representations of Alexander the Great. The combination of military and ritual attributes is particularly unusual. Intact, with a rich dark green patina. H. 2 3/4" (7 cm)..
