Egyptian Bronze Cat Amulet

Description
Egyptian Bronze Cat Amulet, Late Period, ca. 715-330 BC. Exceptionally well modeled, this cat is shown seated, its front paws together, the tail curled up against the body. The eyes, ears, and the differentiation of the legs are all carefully indicated. The large loop attached to the back of the cat's neck suggests that it was intended to be used as an amulet. Since the female cat was particularly noted for its fecundity, this amulet may have enhanced its owner's fertility. Ex HJB 142 Buy or Bid Sale, March 2005, lot 435. H. 3/4" L. 5/8"..
