Hadrian — Denarius, Aequitas-Moneta, Eastern Mint
Sold by Numis-Lens
$225.00
Description
Struck at an eastern mint, AD 128–130, in the years after Hadrian accepted the title Pater Patriae, the P P that closes the obverse legend. RIC separates this group from the parallel issue of Rome: the legends and types are the same, the portrait style is the work of a different workshop.
The reverse reads COS III, "consul for the third time", the consulship Hadrian held in AD 119 and carried on his coinage for the rest of the reign. Aequitas-Moneta stands left with scales and cornucopia, the personification of honest measure at the mint and fair dealing in the state's finances.
