Description

Germany, WWI, LAMENT FOR SOLDIERS LOST IN THE POLISH CAMPAIGN, 1914-1915, 1914-1915 Medal, UNC, This uniface medal memorializes German-Austro-Hungarian forces that stopped the Russian advance into extreme southern Poland in December 1914 and later during the spring, summer and into the winter of 1915 which finally caused the Russians to retreat back deep into their own territory. This medal well shows the personal pathos and sadness of the Germans, rarely if ever seen in French and Belgian medals of the period. (See Klose 15.8)

Bronze 59mm medal by Franz Mazura. FÜR DIE GRABSTÄTTEN DER GEFALLENEN HELDEN VON (Bottom) – 1914 : LIMANOWA – TARNOW – GORLICE : 1915 –

In the center, a soldier on a horse bows in sadness (as does the horse) in front of a roadside shrine covered with ivy and with two helmets, including a pickelhaub, lying in front. It is a sad and personal moment. This is a uniface medal. From the T.H.G Collection.
