Description
Burmese Burmese Teak-Framed Kamavacca Table Screen, Late 19th - Early 20th Century. This is a superbly made table screen that mounts pages from a Burmese Kamavacca into well-crafted teak frame, so the text is visible on both sides of the screen. At full length the screen is 42 inches long and 27 inches high. The Kamavacca itself is wonderfully done in black lacquer tamarind script set on a red and gilt lacquer decorated background. A Kamavacca is a delineation of the rules of order in a Buddhist monastery. Such examples as this were often commission before a young man would enter a monastery. It was typical for most Burmese boys to enter a monastery for a short time to learn the practice of Buddhism. H 27 ” by W 7” x 6 panels W 42”..
