Plautilla. AE 33

Plautilla; Side, Pamphylia, AE 33, 19.37g. RPC-V.3, ID 81342, SNG Paris-819 = Waddell-3460 (same dies). Obv: ΠΛΑΥΤΙΛΛ[Α] ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ, Draped bust r. Rx: ϹΙΔΗ-ΤΩΝ, Caracalla and Plautilla standing, clasping hands over altar. A commemorative marking the marriage of Caracalla and Plautilla in 202, engraved in an elegant, elongated style very different from the clunky standard work of the Side mint in the 3rd century. CNG describes a value mark of H below the obv. portrait, but it appears to be just a die flaw. Ex Curtis L. Clay Collection; Ex MBS 67, Sept. 2004, lot 1113; From the Michael Weller Collection.. VF
