Exonumia, 1893-Medal, MS63, PL, HK-182, SH-6-81 GP (2nd die), Exonumia, 1893-Medal, MS63, PL, HK-182, SH-6-81 GP (2nd die). Jeff Shevlin and William Hyder have done invaluable work researching and cataloging so-called dollars in their authoritative reference published in 2023. Among the new varieties identified in that work is the present piece. Previously believed to have been struck in bronze, recent research suggests these medals were lightly gold plated. More interestingly, the issue is known with two obverse die varieties, of which this example represents the later state.

The present specimen is also one of just two pieces graded Proof-like at NGC, with a total certified population of only ten examples., NGC., NGC.
