Description

Struck at Alexandria between 308 and 310, in the last years of Galerius's reign as Augustus (305–311). Alexandria lay in the territory of Maximinus Daia, so the coin is catalogued under his authority while it carries Galerius's portrait and titles: IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG. The laureate head is bold, the legend readable around most of the flan. RIC separates 105a from 107a only by the shape of the neck truncation, which is too softened here to call; both share this legend, reverse and mintmark.

GENIO IMPERATORIS — "To the Genius of the Emperor." The Genius, guardian spirit of the emperor, stands left wearing a modius, nude but for a chlamys over the left shoulder, holding a patera and a cornucopiae. K in the left field and Γ over P in the right mark the third officina of Alexandria, with ALE in the exergue. The reverse is crisply struck with the legend complete, light green deposits in the fields.
